Your Division - Wrapped
As we reflect on another year coming to a close, there are many moments that stand out, but the thing that stands out the most was your ability to deliver and show up for our campus community each and every day. Whether it was addressing last minute surprises, like building leaks, or the daily challenges, like ensuring the students ate a delicious meal, you kept the campus running like an album with zero skips. Through collaborative efforts and joint initiatives, you created space for growth, learning, and the kind of innovation that lifts the whole division. You handled the tough moments, the unexpected challenges, and new requests with professionalism and dedication.
Thank you for everything you put into this last year, the campus runs because you do!

Leveling Up Professional Development
Several SSU employees visited Linkedin's headquarters in Sunnyvale this month to learn more about LinkedIn Learning and how the platform can support our mission to bring skills to our employees and students, as well as provide tools for new content for our faculty. Through this new partnership, the campus will have access to new data from employers, including hiring trends, desired skillsets, and more, that the campus can use to make decisions on everything from helping students fine-tune their Linkedin profile via training and techniques, marketing programs, and even guide the future direction of curriculum. In January, this team and others will begin rolling out Linkedin Learning for the campus to provide this service free of charge to everyone affiliated with Sonoma State. Stay tuned for more to come!
Winter Break Power Shutdown
All campus buildings will be closed December 29th-31st. Electrical power to all Sonoma State University campus buildings will be shut off to address critical electrical related work. In addition to the electrical power being off, campus water will also be shut off for preventative maintenance repairs. During this time all campus buildings will be closed, and restricted from access. To prepare for the power shutdown, please be sure to power down all equipment, turn off uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), clean out departmental refrigerators and freezers, and lock doors and secure confidential documents prior to leaving campus.
Hands-On Workshops
The cross-functional AI Initiative Core Team successfully launched a series of events and workshops to raise awareness and build practical capabilities around AI tools for SSU employees. Key highlights have included the Summer AI event "Unlocking Everyday Efficiency and Impact with AI", which drew more than 120 participants, and the ongoing "ChatGPT bAIsics" series, which provides beginner-friendly hands-on training for faculty and staff. The team is piloting the intermediate training, "Beyond bAIsics", this month, with more sessions to come in the new year. Questions and feedback are both welcomed and encouraged, please share your thoughts with the IT PMO team at [email protected].
Additionally, the IT PMO team delivered a second session of the "Project Management Foundations" training with participants from different departments. During this training, attendees learn the funamentals, key terminology, and overarching principals of project management through a hands on workshop. Keep an eye out for more workshops to come in the new year!
Shoutouts!
Kudos to the Landscaping team who have been busy cleaning up storm debris throughout the fall season! The team has been working diligently to ensure the campus is safe during a challenging season. Landscaping staff Alonso Gonzalez, Bryan Carter, David Hudkins, and Jack Peiper worked to remove a dangerous tree in Tuscany that split in half after during a November storm, they coned off the area immediately after it was reported and removed the danger the same day.
Thank you to the AI Initiative Core Team for their collaboration and active participation in designing and hosting the on-going development workshops! And special appreciation to Sadie Pettit for serving as the facilitator of the first series of training sessions!
Shoutout to Kindra, Sarah, Melissa, Brian, and the entire CES Office for not only their front-facing work, but all they do behind-the-scenes to move the SSU forward!
